The canola (Brassica rapa) was modified for tolerance to the glyphosate herbicide through the insertion of the Bacillus licheniformis glyphosate-N-acteyltransferase gene, which inactivates glyphosate through acetylation.

The term “Recipient organism” refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas “Parental organisms” refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.

BCH-GENE-SCBD-100367-4 Proteinase inhibitor II gene terminator | Solanum tuberosum (Potato, SOLTU)Terminator
The canola contains one gene cassette for Bacillus licheniformis glyphosate-N-ccteyltransferase (gat). The coding sequence was under control of an Arabidopsis thaliana ubiquitin-10 promoter and a Solanum tuberonsum proteinase inhibitor II 3' untranslated region.
The gat coding sequence expresses the GAT4621 version of the protein, which was functionally improved by a gene shuffling process to optimize the kinetics of glyphosate acetyltransferase.
Southern blot analysis indicated that a single, intact PHP28181 DNA fragment was inserted into the genome with no plasmid backbone DNA.
